Distraught, armed man taken into custody

Police were called to Christus Church in Clintonville on Sunday morning after a call alerting them to a distraught and possibly suicidal parishioner with a gun. Pastor Brian Crocker told police about 10:30 a.m. that the man had made a threatening comment in the presence of another parishioner while armed with a .357 revolver and extra ammunition. Police secured the church and surrounding area, with help from Waupaca County sheriff’s deputies and Marion police, and searched the suspect’s nearby home. Parishioners were released from the church once the area was secured. The 27-year-old Clintonville man was taken into custody about 1 p.m. after he was located in the parking lot of a retail business on the south edge of the city. Officials say the man was reacting to bad news that he received. He was placed in emergency detention pending a medical and psychological evaluation.
