Under Wisconsin’s winter moratorium, all residential customers are protected from the shutoff of natural gas or electric service to their homes through April 15. This means that customers who are behind on their bills from the winter months may now have their service shut off.
Alliant Energy customers can call 800-255-4268 if they’re struggling with their utility bill, so officials can work with them on a solution to keep their services running.
Based on their needs, Alliant Energy can set up a payment arrangement or payment extension, as well as connect customers with financial assistance options, including:
• Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program is a federally funded program that offers Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and the Public Benefits Energy Assistance Program to help households pay a portion of their heating and electric energy costs.
In 2024, Wisconsin residents received more than $85 million in LIHEAP funding, with more than $6 million going to Alliant Energy customers. More than 15,000 Alliant Energy customers received, on average, $397 to assist with hearing bills during the winter heating season in 2024.
The deadline to apply is May 15.

• Hometown Care Energy Fund: This assistance program is supported by Alliant Energy, community partners and voluntary customer contributions. Energy Services Inc. distributes financial help to qualifying customer accounts as funding is available.
