The Tourism and Economic Development Corporation for the Oconto Region (TEDCOR) has been recognized by the state for its role in bring the Encompass child care center to Oconto Falls.
During the Oconto County Board’s meeting on Oct. 31, Jayme Sellen, TEDCOR executive director, announced that the Wisconsin Economic Development Association had recognized Encompass Early Education and Care as the best Business Retention and Expansion project in its annual Community and Economic Development Awards.
With help from TEDCOR, the county and various private and public entities, Encompass transformed the former Kaempfer and Associates engineering firm’s offices into a multifaceted educational center for children from 6 weeks to 12 years old.
The facility opened June 10 at 650 E. Jackson St. and is designed to serve up to 140 children. In collaboration with the Oconto Falls School District, a 4-year-old kindergarten class is being led onsite by a teacher hired by the district.
Encompass is a nonprofit agency that has been providing child care in the Green Bay area for 105 years. The Oconto Falls facility is the organization’s eighth location and its first outside of Brown County.
