Oconto Area Humane Society recently received over $3,000 in funding from local businesses to help animals in need as a result of a “Cups for Pups” fundraiser held Oct. 1.
“As a not-for-profit and locally owned utility, Oconto Falls Municipal Utilities is invested in our community,” said Beth Rank, customer service representative for OFMU. “We saw International Coffee Day was Oct. 1 and thought it would be a great way to involve the community while helping our furry friends.”
The Oconto Area Humane Society and Animal Shelter is an open-admission shelter dedicated to providing protection, care and shelter for abandoned and homeless companion animals.
The utility worked with 12 local businesses to host the event at Milk and Honey Café. For every cup of coffee sold, each business donated $1 to the shelter. The community rallied and purchased 250 cups of coffee, adding up to a total of $3,000 in donations.
Participating businesses were Oconto Falls Municipal Utility, Milk and Honey Café, Corey and Company Landscaping LLC, Custom Metal Specialists LLC, Salscheider’s Antique Bar and Packaged Goods, Luisier Drilling, McDermid Corporation Inc., Mercier’s Fastop, Oconto Electric Cooperative, Iverson’s Piggly Wiggly, Procar and United True Value.
“This turned out to be such a successful event because of these caring businesses and our residents who came in to support the event,” Rank said. “We truly live in a great community.”
