Sheriff gets Gillett SRO contract

The Gillett School Board voted Aug. 15 to authorize administrators to finalize a contract with the Oconto County Sheriff’s Department to hire a school resource officer for the district. The vote was 5-2 with board members Nanette Mohr and Scott Buhrandt abstaining. “I am excited to get underway discussing how the Oconto County Sheriff’s Department and the Gillett School District can partner around the SRO position to help support our school and community,” said Superintendent Nathan Hanson. Numerous community members spoke about the SRO position, Hanson said. Detective Jamie Kuhn, school resource officer for the Oconto Falls School District; Deputy Jess Keplinger, the Suring SRO, and Sheriff Todd Skarban had testimony in support of the new position. Gillett Police Chief Shane Breitenbach was also in attendance to show support. The Gillett School District will announce the position once details of the contract are worked out and a candidate is selected for the position, Hanson said.
