Northeast Wisconsin Technical College has announced its selection as one of the community colleges invited to join Year 7 of the prestigious Metallica Scholars Initiative (MSI).

Supported by a generous $25,000 grant aimed at enhancing access to high-wage degree programs, 20 eligible NWTC students will gain vital financial support with scholarships of up to $1,000 each.

Athletes and canines competed in an evening race through the winding trails of the Machickanee Forest on Oct. 10.

The Golden Pines Trail Run took place with headlamp-wearing contestants meeting at 6790 Timberline Road, Abrams.

More than 100 people registered for the race, which included a 7K and 11K distance for people to run, walk or hike. There was also a canicross division for people to participate with their dog.

Shawano, Menominee and Oconto counties were part of the 2024 record-breaking year for Wisconsin tourism, noted Wisconsin Department of Tourism Secretary Anne Sayers.

According to 2024 economic impact data, the Wisconsin tourism industry generated $25.8 billion in total economic impact, surpassing the previous record year of $25 billion set in 2023.

• Dylan L. Corn, 22, Keshena, pleaded no contest Oct. 10 to possession of narcotic drugs, felony bail jumping, four counts of misdemeanor bail jumping and a misdemeanor charge of operating while revoked. Judge William Kussel Jr. levied fines and sentenced him to 180 days in county jail.
