Wondra takes first in season-opening race

March 18 Ripon College With so much attention turned to Bonduel’s boys basketball team competing at the state tournament, it may have slipped past some fans that the boys and girls track teams kicked off their seasons with an indoor meet at Ripon College. In the girls events, Mariah Wondra ran to first place in the 1,600-meter run in 5:25.49. Kember Frome also competed in the event. Paige Niquette was 11th in the 60-yard dash in 8.70. Also running were Audrey Weier, Rachyl Hutter, Josie Pawlak, Letoriah Brantley, Hailey Spates and Serenity Saldana Busch. Addison Raymakers led the Bears with a 15th-place finish in the 200-meter run in 29.77. Joining her on the track were Brantley and Arika Doxtator. Peyton Westrich was seventh in the 400-meter run in 1:04.96. Amelia Wilcox placed 10th in 1:06.84. Doxtator also competed. Cierra Schnell placed sixth in the 60-meter hurdles in 10.96. In the shot put, Hutter placed seventh at 29-4.25. She was joined by Abbi Heller, Spates, Morgan Staszak, McKenna Onesti, Caroline Richter, Saldana Busch, Elena Schultz and Payton Huntington. Wilcox placed 1oth in the high jump at 4-6. Pawlak finished fourth in the long jump at 15-10.25. Schnell was eighth at 15-1.5. Also jumping were Westrich and Brantley. For the boys, Malachi Gray finished seventh in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.60 seconds. He was joined by Jayden Popp, Liam Rosenthal, Noah Gretzinger, Hayden Eisner and Jackson Krause. In the 200-meter run, Gray placed fifth in 25.37. Jose Lagunes, Kaiden Thornborrow and Eisner also ran. Gage Scholl placed 11th in the 400-meter run in 59.14. Also competing were Thornborrow, Oliver Chitwood and Gage Anderson. Ben Reisner led the Bears with a 17th-place finish in the 800-meter run. Following him were Corbin Vandenberg, Joah Dworniczak and Thomas Vanderzanden. Garrett Anderson placed 18th in the 1,600-meter run. He was joined by Dylan Keller and Reisner. In the shot put, Popp led the Bears, placing eighth with a distance of 38 feet 8 inches. Lagunes, Ryley Kurtz, Krause, Liam Rosenthal and Gretzinger also competed. Gray finished 11th in the long jump at 18-3.5. Scholl, Gage Anderson, and Eisner also jumped. In the triple jump, Thornborrow was 15th at 28-10.25.
