A Wausaukee woman was killed Jan. 4 in a one-vehicle crash in the Town of Stiles.
According to a news release from Oconto County Sheriff Todd Skarban, the Emergency Dispatch Center was notified of the crash involving a sport utility vehicle with injuries on U.S. Highway 141 at Stiles Road.
The preliminary investigation revealed the woman, 24, was driving north on U.S. Highway 141 with a 1-year-old girl. For unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway, driving into the east ditch south of Stiles Road. The vehicle struck the south intersecting ditch, causing the vehicle to launch over the road.
The vehicle overturned multiple times before coming to rest in a yard adjacent to the highway. The driver died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. The child was immediately transported to a hospital in Green Bay to be checked for any injuries.
An ongoing investigation in regard to this accident is being conducted by the sheriff’s office and the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office. No other information is being released at this time.
Skarban said the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Lena Police Department, Oconto Fire and Rescue, Oconto Falls Ambulance, the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office.
