The April 7 election will determine who will serve as treasurer for the town of Oconto Falls. The two candidates are incumbent Mary Lemmen and challenger Sue Konitzer. Here are their election profiles.
SUE KONITZER
Age: 62, town of Oconto Falls resident for 43 years
Education: Graduated from Oconto Falls High School
Employment: Retired from Wells Fargo Bank after 26 years. Began as a teller, then was promoted to personal banker and consumer lender and finished career as a home mortgage consultant.
Experience: Treasurer for Little Hearts for Life, a local nonprofit charity, since its inception in 2011. The organization has donated $73,000 to date to Children’s Hospital Milwaukee for pediatric heart research.
Statement: “I am excited about running for treasurer for the town of Oconto Falls, and feel I have the qualifications for this position. My banking background and current position with Little Hearts for Life I feel make me a strong candidate.”
MARY LEMMEN
Age: 80, town of Oconto Falls resident for 48 years. She and her husband, Dick, purchased their dairy farm in 1967.
Education: Graduated from Green Bay High School majoring in business courses
Employment: Retired dairy farmer, worked part time for 10 years in the Oconto County treasurer’s office
Experience: Treasurer for various organizations: town of Oconto Falls since 1985, Community Memorial Hospital/HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital Auxiliary since 1989, Oconto County Partnership for three years; secretary-treasurer for Oconto unit of Wisconsin Towns Association; member of the Oconto County Board of Supervisors since 1994; represent the town on the board of Oconto County Economic Development; served as a Department of Natural Resources fire warden for 19 years.
Statement: “What qualifies me as the best candidate for the office of town treasurer is my 30 years experience as treasurer and knowledge of town government. I attend workshops and conferences made available through the county, Wisconsin Towns Association and University of Wisconsin-Extension to keep up with the changes in tax programs and other town issues. I enjoy working with the town residents and would like to be re-elected as treasurer.”
