Shawano’s Troy Springborn and Steve Kastning each ended up with 220 points in the dire late models division, but Springborn was crowned champion in the standings after the Sept. 5 races at the Shawano Speedway. Shawano’s Brett Swedberg was in third place with 218 points.

The saddest thing I can imagine is a kid without a pocketknife.

Next in line on my Sad List would be a young hunter in the woods without a decent hunting knife (or two or three).

Growing up in the non-PC world of the 1960s and 1970s, I carried a pocketknife everywhere, including school. What self-respecting Cub Scout or Webelo would be caught without his multiblade Scout knife?

There are still a few days left in the early goose season.

The season opened Sept. 1 and runs through Sept. 15.

The early goose season has an increased daily bag limit of five Canada geese and is uniformly regulated across Wisconsin.

The regular goose season will open in the Northern and Southern Goose Zones on Sept. 16. The Mississippi River Goose Zone will open Oct. 3.

Tigerton hosted nonconference foe Northeast Wisconsin Christian Homeschoolers Athletic Association in a best of five match, defeating the Eagles 3-0. Scores were 25-9, 25-14 and 25-8.

“It was good to see the team using free balls to set up their offense and to also see them concentrate on their serving tonight,” coach Holly Meverden said.

Pulaski’s Maggie Gerth placed second in the girls large school competition, and Oconto Falls’ Lily Meissner placed fifth in the girls small school cross country meet hosted by De Pere at Shorewood Cross Country Course in Green Bay.

Pulaski 7, Marshfield 0

The Red Raiders hosted Marshfield and cruised to a 7-0 victory over the Tigers.

Pulaski built a 6-0 first half lead with goals by Kevin Cruz Lagunes, Micah Gesell, Miles Mondloch and a hat trick from Walker Wozniak.

Mondloch tallied his second goal of the game for the lone score of the second half.
