Robert ‘Bud’ S. Quade

Robert S. Quade, 96, of 149 S. Woodlawn, Gillett, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, died on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014, surrounded by family. Bud was born Dec. 15, 1917, in Laona to Robert R. and Cloa (Cournoyer) Quade. Bud moved to Gillett at the age of 7 and graduated from Gillett High School. He met his wife, Kathleen Cunningham, and they were united in marriage on Oct. 15, 1940, at St. John’s Catholic Church, in Gillett. She preceded him in death on Jan. 18, 2002. Bud served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of The Crozier Society Catholic Foundation in Green Bay and St. John’s Catholic Community in Gillett, where he served as trustee for many years, as an usher, CCD instructor, council president and janitor. Whatever needed to be done, Bud would do it. He was a charter member of the Gillett Lions Club, Gillett American Legion, Gillett VFW, Gillett Snow Riders, Gillett nonprofit housing authority and Gillett Industrial Development Corporation. Bud owned and operated Quade’s Five and Ten, as well as Quade’s Ben Franklin stores. He was an avid gardener and forester; he enjoyed spending time in his garden and in the woods cutting brush and splitting firewood. In the evenings, Bud enjoyed sitting watching a fire and praying his rosary. He is survived by three children, Robert (Marcia) Quade, of Gillett, Susan Quade (Lawrence) Tienor, of Eau Claire, and Joseph Quade, of Oconto Falls; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bernadine Quade, of Livermore, California. Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen; his two sons, John R. Quade and Mark W. Quade; his brother, Richard; and sisters, Marion, Alice, Catherine and Arlene. Bud’s family would like to thank the staff and residences of The Cottages at Meadowland and Heartland Home Health Care and Hospice for their loving care. Friends called from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Kuehl Funeral Home, Gillett. Visitation will resume Wednesday from 9-11 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church, Gillett. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Dean Dombroski and Sister Marla Clercx officiating.
