The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), in partnership with the Shawano County Sheriff Department and Shawano Police Department, is continuing to investigate the 2013 disappearance and death of Heather Szekeres, according to a press release from Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul.
Following new leads in the case, law enforcement returned Oct. 3 to the location where Szekeres was found in 2014 near County Road MMM in the Town of Richmond. Law enforcement conducted a search and recovered additional evidence, according to the press release. The investigation into the disappearance and death of Szekeres remains ongoing and no further information will be released, according to officials.
Szekeres disappeared a year earlier in downtown Shawano at the former Final Lap Sports Bar and Grill, not far from the apartment she shared with her husband, Robert, their 11-month-old daughter and Heather’s mother. Darwin Davis, the business’s former owner, was considered a prime suspect in her murder, but charges were never filed.
Davis was sent to prison for second-degree sexual assault of a child, possession on cocaine and contributing to the deliquency of a child, among other charges. Davis is currently serving more than 20 years in prison on those charges, and he will have 10 years of extended supervision upon his release.
