Bowler School District awarded USDA grant as part of collaborative distance learning initiative

The Bowler School District will receive $23,898 for distance learning technology upgrades from a USDA Rural Development, Rural Utility Services Distance Learning and Telemedicine (RUS-DLT) grant. In total, two Wisconsin distance learning consortiums — Northern Wisconsin Educational Communications System (NWECS) and Embarrass River Valley Instructional Network Group (ERVING), in partnership with Northwood Technical College — have been awarded $999

Menominee community to receive federal funding to create safer roads
The Menominee Indian Tribal Community is among eight Wisconsin communities that will receive a total of $11,320,258 in federal discretionary funds through the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant program to improve roadway safety, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. This is the second round of the SS4A Grant Program through the U.S.

Ruthmary A. Sekaney
Ruthmary Ann Sekaney, of Shawano, died on Dec. 24, 2023, at Aster Assisted Living in Clintonville. She was 84 years old. She was born Dec. 3, 1939, in Antigo, a daughter of Marland “Blackie” and Virginia (Godleske) Malzahn. She married George Sekaney on Sept. 3, 1960, at Peace Lutheran in Antigo.

Betty M. Speller
Betty M. Speller, 92, Oconto, passed away Dec. 25, 2023, at Bellin Hospital Oconto, surrounded by her family. Betty was born Aug. 18, 1931, in Oconto to the late Hilbert and Martha (Ritter) Cota. She married Norbert Speller on March 2, 1963. He preceded her in death on Feb. 11, 1998. Betty worked at the Oconto County Courthouse as a property lister, retiring at the age of 62.

Larry A. Krolow, age 83, of Clintonville, passed away early Tuesday morning, Dec. 26, 2023, at The Pine Post Acute and Memory Care, Embarrass. The Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home & Crematory, Tigerton, is assisting the Krolow family in their time of need.

Packers face their biggest game of the season next week
When Green Bay’s schedule was released, it looked like the biggest game of the season was going to be the Week 17 game against the Minnesota Vikings. That has come to fruition, as Green Bay, which currently sits at a 28% chance to make the playoffs, according to the New York Times Playoff Predictor, has the opportunity to greatly improve those chances with a win. Making the playoffs would be thought of as a success for this season.
