March is National Women’s Month. I’m not one to pass up the chance to celebrate anything, so let’s toast the fabulous females in our lives. Kudos to all of the wonderful women whose lives intersect with mine. You are my role models, my inspiration and my mental salvation in these trying times. Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School hockey player Owen Dickman has been honored by the Wisconsin Hockey Coaches Association (WHCA). Dickman, a forward on the Antigo and Witt-Birn co-op hockey team, was named honorable mention for the WHCA boys hockey all-state teams for the 2023-24 season. His teammate, Eli Kassler, also a forward, was named to the second team. It was Kassler’s second year being named all-state.

Even before the WIAA boys state basketball tournament games were held, high school spring sports got underway, with a handful of Shawano boys track members competing in the Oshkosh High School Invitational at UW-Oshkosh on March 12. Work on North Airport Drive north of Green Bay Street in Shawano is expected to begin in early April after the Shawano Common Council approved a memorandum of understanding with Shawano County on March 13. The project is expected to cost $425,000, with the city’s portion being $199,500.
