Reduce risk of injuries in young athletes

Participating in youth sports can lead to immediate and long-term benefits for children. Unfortunately, sports injuries can, and do, occur. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than half of the seven million sports- and recreation-related injuries that occur each year are sustained by youths between ages five and 24. “The most common injuries we see here in youth sports are strains and sprains.
Bonduel golfers win at Iola
May 6 Central Wisconsin Conference Mini Meet Bonduel won the latest CWC Meet with 336 strokes, topping Wittenberg-Birnamwood’s 356 second place. Marion’s 401 tied for fifth place and Menominee Indian/Gresham’s 515 finished in 10th place. The mini meet was held at Glacier Wood Golf Club in Iola. Colin Fischer was the medalist, leading the field and his Bonduel teammates with a 77.
Historical society to learn about antique farm equipment
The Suring Area Historical Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. May 21 at the Paul Kirchner farmette, 7890 County Road R, Suring. There will be a tour and information on all the antique farm equipment displayed there, with the society’s business meeting to follow with snacks and refreshments. The society board will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the shed at the farm.
BABA season opens
All four divisions of the Badger Amateur Baseball Association (BABA) began league play in May after games were rained out in Week 1 at the end of April. Menominee returns to the East Division after being out for a year.
Pulaski boys lacrosse team shut out by Bay Port
May 7 Bay Port 21, Pulaski 0 Pulaski’s boys lacrosse team dropped to 0-2 in the Fox River Classic Conference after a 21-0 thrashing at the hands of Bay Port. The Red Raiders are 0-12 overall.
LETTER: Does Dale Mohr have conflict of interest?
To the editor: After one year of a new town board in Little Suamico, one has to address Town Chairman Dale Mohr and question which hat he wears when he chairs the monthly town meetings. Dale Mohr wears the Oconto County UW-Extension community development agent hat. Dale is also Little Suamico town chair and Little Suamico plan chair.

Russell Olson
It’s with heavy hearts, but gratitude for a life well lived, that we announce the passing of Russell Vernon Olson, 95, who died peaceably at home on May 6, 2024. Born Aug. 28, 1928, he was a lifelong resident of Stiles Junction. Russell was preceded by his parents, Arthur and Mina (Danielson) Olson, and sister, Jeanette Skaggs Schroeder. Dorothy Ellner
Dorothy Ellner, 89, Oconto Falls, died early Wednesday morning, May 8, 2024, at home. She was born March 10, 1935, in Oconto Falls to Henry and Helen (Krause) Marks. Dorothy grew up on the family farm on the edge of Oconto Falls, attended Oconto Falls public schools and graduated high school with the class of 1953. Homicide by OWI trial postponed
The May 8 trial of an Oconto Falls man for homicide by the intoxicated use of a motor vehicle was postponed when the defense attorney fell ill. Thomas Edward Wolf, 57, is charged in connection with a crash Aug. 3, 2022, that claimed the life of Bart Erdman, 60, also of Oconto Falls. Oconto County Judge Michael Judge received a note from the attorney’s office May 7 that he was expected to be in the hospital for at least several days.
