Shawano beats Menominee 14-6 in comeback victory

The Shawano American Legion baseball team has fallen behind early in games recently, but the team is battling back, as it did in a 14-6 win over Menominee on Friday night at Memorial Park. Shawano (3-9) fell behind Menominee (4-5) 5-1 after the first 1 1/2 innings. After scoring runs in the second and fourth to cut Menominee’s lead to 5-3, Taylor Prey hit a two-run double to tie the game.
Shawano Speedway midseason report
The 2013 racing season has most certainly reached its midpoint. That being the case, the race to the point titles are beginning to come into focus. The late model division this year was a bit of an unknown at the start of the year. Combining the old FASTRAK class and the former WISSOTA division into one class was questioned by some racers and fans alike.

Mielke busy place for next few months
We participated in our first classic car show last week. My husband bought a 1976 four-door hardtop Cadillac, which just fits into our garage (it’s l-o-n-g). We also have a 1989 Cadillac Brougham, which I actually like better, but it’s not my hobby. Anyway, we are a garage stall short, so the ‘89 Caddy has to go. We took it to the car show to display it and hopefully find a buyer.
Challenges of farming
With a keen eye, my husband monitors our herd of cows and young stock on a daily basis. Every farmer must keep vigilant watch as health conditions can change in a heartbeat. It’s always a challenge to maintain a herd of cows, no matter the size. I’ve heard it said once, that 50 cows per man is about all one individual can handle.
Aunts provide link to fond memories
Today, July 10, my Aunt Gertie is 99 years young. I am 29 years younger than she is, and it is hard for me to imagine myself at 99. I am not sure it is something I even want to be, but I leave those things up to my Lord, as he knows best. I called Aunt Gertie up the other day, to wish her a happy birthday, and also to find out when she would be available to have company.
Rotarians learn history of Twig’s Beverage
“In America, small business is a big deal.” — Bob Beauprez Local service clubs are an important part of our community. Each club contributes in different ways to a variety of causes. As a member of our local Rotary Club, finding speakers for our weekly meetings is my task for the next year. This week, Shawano’s own Dan Hartwig spoke to our club. Dan is president and CEO of Twig’s Beverage.
