Panel balks at evidence storage groundwork

Committees at odds over capital projects
Pounding the table, Sheriff Randy Wright on Thursday likened the attitudes of two county committees to the dictatorial rule of Syria’s Bashar Assad. Local schools defy odds of poverty
Three local schools are among the 167 recognized throughout the state with School of Recognition awards. Gresham Community School, Tigerton Elementary School and Marion Elementary School were the area schools to be selected for the award from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI). All of the School of Recognition recipients will receive a plaque and $500. Tigerton Elementary School received the honor for the fifth year in a row.

Marian P. “Zhikwes” Perrote
Marian Phyllis Perrote, 95, passed away on Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, surrounded by her family. Marian was born on May 29, 1918 in Arpin, the daughter of Frank and Sarah (Whitepigeon) Young. Marian was one of the original inhabitants of “Pkwakik,” Skunk Hill, or Powers Bluff as it is now known. She was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and one of the last heritage fluent speakers of the Potawatomi language.

Virginia K. Waupochick
Virginia Kathryn Waupochick, 97, of Keshena, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at a local nursing home. Born on April 16, 1916, in Neopit, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Vernie (Harper) Fredenberg. On Nov. 12, 1935, she was united in marriage to Antoine Waupochick in Keshena. Antoine preceded her in death on Feb. 24, 1984. Virginia worked as the postmaster in Keshena for 20 years before retiring in 1954.

City won't enforce ordinance against petting zoo
