Fred C. “Smiley” Pieper, 79, of Gresham, passed away Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at his home. Born on Oct. 27, 1933, in Sampson, he was the son of the late Fred and Ida (Hess) Pieper. On Sept. 5, 1970, he was united in marriage to Renee Hoffman in Michigan. Fred worked for Foreway Express for more than 28 years.

Eugene E. “The Pipper” Pipgrass, 74, of Cecil, formerly of Princeton, Ill., passed away suddenly on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at his home. Gene was born on Jan. 1, 1939, in Oconto Falls to Clarence and Madeline (Gallagher) Pipgrass. Shawano Community Middle School The time is already passing quickly this school year, and we have been very busy here at SCMS. The students have had excellent experiences with life-learning lessons in the past couple of weeks. One activity that is new this year is the biweekly homeroom lessons with math manipulatives. Not only are students experiencing hands-on mathematical instruction, but they also are being problem-solvers above all.

Olson scores five goals for Wildcats The Gresham/Bowler high school boys soccer team beat Wisconsin Valley Lutheran 10-0 in a match Tuesday in Mosinee. Mallory Mews and Sam Falck led their Bonduel High School cross-country teams to first-place finishes Tuesday at the Menominee Indian Invitational in Middle Village. Bonduel’s top five boys all finished in the top 10. Sam Falck took first with a time of 17 minutes, 54 seconds.

On a night of plenty of missed opportunities, perhaps the biggest came with 8 minutes and 42 seconds left in Tuesday’s Bay Conference soccer match between Shawano Community High School and Hortonville.
