Richard L. Koeller

Richard L. Koeller, 73, of Shawano, passed away Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at Birch Hill Care Center in Shawano, following a lengthy illness. Richard was born Sept. 19, 1940, in Shawano, a son of the late Walter and Lydia (Buhrandt) Koeller. He attended the Shawano schools, graduating from Shawano High School. On Jan. 17, 1958, he entered the United States Army, serving his country until Jan.
Fred C. Pieper
Fred C. “Smiley” Pieper, 79, of Gresham, passed away Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at his home. Born on Oct. 27, 1933, in Sampson, he was the son of the late Fred and Ida (Hess) Pieper. On Sept. 5, 1970, he was united in marriage to Renee Hoffman in Michigan. Fred worked for Foreway Express for more than 28 years.
Eugene E. Pipgrass
Eugene E. “The Pipper” Pipgrass, 74, of Cecil, formerly of Princeton, Ill., passed away suddenly on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at his home. Gene was born on Jan. 1, 1939, in Oconto Falls to Clarence and Madeline (Gallagher) Pipgrass. Gene graduated from Oconto Falls High School in 1957 and was drafted into the United States Army in June 1958. Gene returned home from Germany in May 1960 and married Romaine Stoviak, Lena, on Dec.

Shawano Community Middle School The time is already passing quickly this school year, and we have been very busy here at SCMS. The students have had excellent experiences with life-learning lessons in the past couple of weeks. One activity that is new this year is the biweekly homeroom lessons with math manipulatives. Not only are students experiencing hands-on mathematical instruction, but they also are being problem-solvers above all.

Olson scores five goals for Wildcats The Gresham/Bowler high school boys soccer team beat Wisconsin Valley Lutheran 10-0 in a match Tuesday in Mosinee. Austin Olson led Gresham/Bowler (8-4) with five goals. Scott Cerveny had two goals. Drew Payne, Kalen Fischer and Levi Ludvigsen added a goal each.
Bears dominate Eagle Invitational
Mallory Mews and Sam Falck led their Bonduel High School cross-country teams to first-place finishes Tuesday at the Menominee Indian Invitational in Middle Village. Bonduel’s top five boys all finished in the top 10. Sam Falck took first with a time of 17 minutes, 54 seconds.
Hawks suffer first Bay soccer loss
On a night of plenty of missed opportunities, perhaps the biggest came with 8 minutes and 42 seconds left in Tuesday’s Bay Conference soccer match between Shawano Community High School and Hortonville. Nathaniel Wilson’s shot got by Hortonville goalie Jacob Jennerjohn to tie the match 1-1, but the referee blew a whistle for obstruction before the play.
