The city of Shawano is looking into whether a downtown water main break last week was an isolated incident or a harbinger of a bigger and potentially expensive problem. The break in the 200 block of South Main Street on Sept. 25 was actually the third such incident involving the water main installed as part of the major Main Street reconstruction project in 2002 and 2003. Shawano County Sheriff’s Department Oct. 2 Deputies logged 49 incidents, including the following: Warrant — A 50-year-old man was arrested on a warrant after a traffic stop on County Road G in Red Springs. Vandalism — A garage door was reported vandalized on County Road B in Waukechon. Juvenile — Authorities responded to a juvenile problem at Gresham School. Fraud — Authorities investigated a fraud complaint at Walmart, 1244 E.

Thomas Edward Juedes, 67, of California, formerly of Shawano, passed away Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, in California. Born on October 27, 1945, in Shawano, he was the son of the late Emil I. and Irma (Burmeister) Juedes. Thomas had lived in California for the past eight years. Thomas is survived by two sisters, Sheryl Vomastic, of Shawano, and Jolene (Rev.

Richard Koeller, 73, of Shawano, passed away Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at Birch Hill Care Center in Shawano following a lengthy illness. Richard attended St. Paul Lutheran Church, Stony Hill, for many years. Memorial services and burial will take place Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at St. Paul Lutheran Church and Stony Hill Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.

Sept. 29 was the end to our amazing Doris Elst’s life. She brought music into our lives, gracious hospitality and God. She shared with us her many opinions, and had the wonderful gift of humor, which she used every day. Doris was born March 27, 1929, to Edward and Julianna Opperman in Shawano. She married the love of her life, Frank Elst, in 1946.

St. James Lutheran Our fourth- and fifth-graders took their class trip to Madison on Friday, and after school the eighth-graders traveled to Camp Luther for their confirmation retreat. Courtney Baumann earned a trip to the WIAA sectional Wednesday, finishing 17th with a round of 99 at the Division 1 regional at Crystal Springs Golf Course in Seymour. Baumann, a Shawano senior, was the fourth and final individual qualifier, edging out teammate Megan Beck, who finished with a round of 100.
