Two people were assaulted by masked intruders during a home invasion in the city early Saturday, according to the Shawano Police Department. Police responded shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday to a report of masked individuals carrying weapons breaking into a residence in the 800 block of Olson Street. The residence was occupied by adults and children residing in the home. Officers responded and surrounded the home.

The Shawano/Bonduel high school girls swim team might have gotten off on the wrong foot Thursday against defending Bay Conference champion Sturgeon Bay, but the Hawks finished strong to earn a 96-72 victory at home. “Last year, we lost to them by nine points,” Shawano/Bonduel coach Sharon Hanson said.

James F. Nelson, 78, of Shawano, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014, in Shawano. He was born on Feb. 23, 1936, to the late Reuben & Hazel (Tollerud) Nelson. Jim was a graduate of Michigan State University in 1960 and sang in the Michigan State Men’s Glee Club. On Nov. 11, 1961, he was united in marriage to Jean Wilhorn in Wisconsin Rapids.

Stanley Rudzinski, 93 (and 3⁄4), Hofa Park, died peacefully Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014, at his home on the farm where he was born and lived all his life. The son of Frank and Elizabeth (Bogacz) Rudzinski was born Feb. 26, 1921. On June 22, 1946, Stanley married Irene Palubicki at St. Stanislaus Church in Hofa Park. The couple farmed and raised their family in the town of Lessor. Stanley served as town of Lessor chairman from 1968-1981.

Allen R. Burmeister, 63, of Seymour, passed away Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014, at Appleton Medical Center. He was born Oct. 20, 1950, to the late Ray and Dorothy (Gagnow) Burmeister. In 1969, Al graduated from Shiocton High School. He was united in marriage to Diane Schwister on Aug. 4, 1979, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Black Creek. Diane preceded him in death on Feb. 16, 2008.

Shirley A. Hoffman, born to George and Alma McFarlane, in Tigerton, on May 10, 1931. She resided in Suring at the time of her death. She went to her Heavenly Father on Aug. 24, 2014. Waiting there, for her, were her beloved husband, Carl W.

It is just a little owie, it didn’t even bleed. I remember I used to ration Band-Aids for the kids by saying, “Show me the blood.” No blood, no Band-Aid. I have no idea when or how I got this owie, but since it is on the tip of my little finger, it is proving to be an annoying, aggravating problem. This morning, I wanted to clip my fingernails. That particular one proved to be a bit painful.

Ray Koukari, a member of the Shawano United Methodist Church, takes care of the church’s concession stand at Green Bay Packers games. He was born in Superior and moved to Milwaukee when World War II started. After graduating from South Division High School, he joined the Army for three years, serving in the Korean War.

Just because you might not see them on the street doesn’t mean they aren’t there.
