Thanks to the support of several businesses, two research-proven workshops are making a difference for participants this fall. The Oconto County Commission on Aging and Woodland Village Nursing Centers/Home Health have partnered with Quality Living by Choice to provide Stepping On, a falls prevention workshop that builds confidence and reduces falls. Falls are costly both in dollars and in the loss of well-being and independence for older people.

Jim “Grampa” Ama, 65, Green Bay, died peacefully at his residence on Sept. 27, 2014, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 31, 1949, in Oconto Falls, he was the son of the late Dario and Yeoland (Krause) Ama. Jim was a 1967 graduate of Oconto Falls High School and obtained his associate degree in transportation from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College. On Oct.

A gas odor at Washington Middle School caused students and staff to evacuate the school Friday morning and spend their day at Oconto Falls High School. Buses delivering students to the middle school at the start of the day were used to transport students and staff to Oconto Falls High School, while the fire department and gas company performed tests at the school. Students returned to the middle school about 10:30 a.m.
