If my dad were alive today, he’d be 100 years old. His birthday was Dec. 15. (If you asked Dad how old he was, he’d always say, “I’m 10 days older than Jesus!”) Toward the end of his life, Dad had some pretty serious memory issues, but he’d have occasional periods of relative clarity, and when that happened, he was capable of thinking some serious thoughts. On one such occasion, he was in a particularly pensive mood.

A second-half rally carried the Oconto Falls High School girls basketball team to its second Bay Conference victory of the season Friday. The Panthers entered halftime clinging to a 15-11 lead against Menasha before outscoring the visitors 24-14 in the second half to post a 39-25 win. Senior 5-foot-4 guard Elizabeth Manns rattled off five 3-pointers on six attempts to lead the Panthers with 15 points.

Gillett/Suring wrestlers produced three second-place finishes and took fifth among 11 teams at the Kewaunee Invitational on Saturday. Southern Door won the invitational with 215.5 points.

Marvin L. Murphy, 87, of Cecil passed away on Friday, Dec. 19, 2014. Marvin was born on Aug. 17, 1927, to the late John and Dorothy (Thill) Murphy in Campbellsport. He married Gertie Allen. She preceded him in death. On Sept. 9, 2000, he married Patricia Ann (Krueger) Bahr. Marvin served in the Merchant Marines and the U. S. Army. He worked for Knuth Construction Company in Milwaukee as a mason until he retired in 1990.

Lenore Marie Albers, 87, of Keshena, died on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, in Keshena. She was born on Feb. 16, 1927, in Chicago to the late Arthur and Nell (Malloy) Lenzer. L Lenore attended St. Sylvester Grammar School and graduated from Providence High School. Lenore was united in marriage to Jack Henry Albers on June 26, 1948. They initially made their home in Elmwood Park, Illinois, before moving to Des Plaines, where they resided 40 years.
