Kevin Schultz, who was born and raised in Marion, was sworn in as the city’s new chief of police on Aug. 14. He replaces David Walker, who retired. “I’ve had the pleasure of mentoring Kevin Schultz during this time,” Walker said. “He will make a fine chief.

A driver killed in a weekend Shawano County wreck that also killed another motorist and injured three other people has been identified as a four-time convicted drunken driver. Tony Garvey, 42, of De Pere, who was last convicted in 2013, was driving a pickup truck that police believe crossed a centerline and collided with two other vehicles near Bonduel about 10:15 p.m.

Gerald J. Nacotee, 60, of South Branch, was called to the Spirit World early Sunday morning, Aug. 16, 2015, in Shawano, surrounded by his family. Gerald was born June 26, 1955, in Keshena, a son of the late Philip and Beulah (Kitchenakow) Nacotee. He attended St Joseph Catholic Grade School and later Franklin Middle School and Shawano High School. Following school he was employed for many years at Menominee Tribal Enterprises as a sawyer.

Duane W. Conrad, 70, of Shawano, passed away on Aug. 15, 2015. He was born on Oct, 23, 1944, to William and Viola (Beilke) Conrad. Duane lived in Shawano most of his life except when he was serving in the Army during the Vietnam conflict. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and received the Shawano Volunteer of the Year award.

Gary Clifford Miller Jr. entered this world for a brief time on Aug. 14, 2015, at 8:30 p.m. He was loved and cherished by his parents and family. Gary Jr. was the son of Gary and Kacey Miller. He is survived by one sister, Scarlett Miller; his grandparents, James and Rhonda Corn and Anthony and Bettina Miller; great-grandparents, David and Elizabeth Waupekenay and Deloris Delabrue. He is also survived by numerous aunts and uncles. Gary Jr.

William P. “Bill” Scholar Sr., 75, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2015, in Shawano. William was born on Sept. 24, 1939, in Houghton, Michigan, to the late Lorraine Scholar. William spent his childhood in Michigan before moving to Wisconsin with his family. He eventually moved to Indiana where he lived for 20 years before returning to Shawano.

Mary Braun, Oconto Falls, formerly of Gillett, died Friday morning, Aug. 14, 2015, at home. She was born Nov. 2, 1924, in the town of Underhill to Edward and Laura (Bistoff) Wollin. Mary grew up on the family farm in Underhill, where she attended Frank School, a one-room school house.

Allen Miller, 71, of Gillett, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015, in Green Bay. Allen was born on Dec. 16, 1943, in Oconto Falls to the late Walter and Anna (Konop) Miller Sr. After graduating from high school he joined the U.S. Army and served until he was honorably discharged. On Sept. 19, 1964, Allen was united in marriage to Norma Reed in White Clay Lake; together the couple had two children.

Richard Synol, 70, of Shawano, passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home, while under the care of ThedaCare at Home Hospice, on Aug. 11, 2015. Richard, also known as “Dickie,” “Dick,” “The Ole Buck” or “R.J.,” was born on Aug. 30, 1944, in Rib Lake, to the late Bernice and Walter Synol. He grew up in Rib Lake and graduated from Rib Lake High School.
