Abrams Spotlight Productions Inc. will present “The Wizard of Oz,” based on the classic story by L. Frank Baum, from Dec. 4-6 and Dec. 11-13 at The Byng Community Theater in Abrams. Opening night is 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, and will include a gala. Patrons will join the cast and crew for complimentary hors d’oeuvres and drinks after the show. Subsequent show dates are 1 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5 and 12; 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6 and 13; and 7 p.m.

The WRVM Christmas Concert, featuring the nationally acclaimed Southern Gospel group The Browns, is coming to the Falls Area Performing Arts Center at Oconto Falls High School. The Browns will perform at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7. This family group includes Shelley Brown and adult children Michaela, Adam and Andrew.

Terrance Carl Murphy, 85, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 5. He was born on Oct. 2, 1930, in Chicago.

Community support is paying off at the pump in the Gillett School District since the kickoff of the Pride Pump at a local gas station. Riiser Energy, of Wausau, owns the R-Store convenience store and gas station on McKenzie Street and designated a Gillett Pride Pump to raise revenue through community involvement.

The second annual Village of Lights will be held from 3:30-7 p.m. Sunday Nov. 29, in Lena. Local businesses have been decorating storefronts in preparation for event. Chairperson Linda Earley Hinds coordinated the promotion to help the local businesses and the village. School clubs and local churches also have stepped up to help. The event starts with a holiday movie and popcorn at the Lena Public Library.

A season after advancing three wrestlers to the WIAA state meet, the Oconto Falls High School team is changing its practice routine for the new season. Last season, the Panthers worked more on the wrestling mats and correcting individuals’ techniques. Head coach Marc Kinziger is emphasizing weightlifting this season. “It has a lot to do with the makeup of the team. They wanted it, they bought into it.

After losing its two tallest players from last year’s squad to graduation, the Oconto Falls High School boys basketball lineup this year will be shorter and quicker. The Panthers lost four seniors, including 6-foot-8 Michael Fifield and 6-foot-5 Riley Gruetzmacher, from last year’s team, which compiled a 5-18 record and placed eighth in the Bay Conference with a 2-14 mark. “You can’t make up 6-8 and 6-5.

Time for a check-up. For the population of Oconto County, the results were not all good. Thirty percent of adults are considered obese, and 25 percent reported they participated in no leisure time physical activity.
