Hot start keeps Eagles perfect
The game could not have started any better for the Menominee Indian High School girls basketball team. The Eagles made their first five baskets, led by senior center Ania Smith’s five points, to jump out to a 14-2 advantage over Marion in the first 4 minutes and 30 seconds of the game. Packers rebound win over Lions was an all-timer
With the euphoria having settled and the Green Bay Packers breathing a sigh of elated relief, it was left to ponder where the final play of last week’s 27-23 win over Detroit stood in the pantheon of franchise lore. School Notes
Shawano Community Middle School The kids from Shawano Community Middle School have been doing many fundraisers to help pay for their trip to Washington, D.C., in May 2016. They have been doing jobs such as raking leaves, dog walking, babysitting and more. Just like bigger stores in the mall, the kids also are volunteering to wrap gifts. They did this Saturday at Walmart.

Police haul in 690 pounds of food during drive
Shawano police, in partnership with the Shawano Area Fire Department, collected more than 690 pounds of food during the “Fill the Squad” food drive last week. 5 arrested in latest online sex sting
Five people were nabbed over the past several days in Shawano County’s latest Internet sex sting operation, including one suspect who led authorities on a high-speed chase Wednesday morning. All of the arrests came as a result of undercover sheriff’s detectives posing as juveniles on the Internet. The suspects allegedly engaged in email or text exchanges with the supposed children and arranged to meet with them for sex, according to authorities.

County explores library cost shift
Residents using out-of-county libraries would be billed directly by those libraries, under a proposal Shawano County is considering to save the county money. County officials were upset earlier this year when they received bills exceeding $100,000 from neighboring counties for library services provided to residents who crossed the border. Shelter accepting youth volunteers
The Oconto Area Humane Society recently changed its volunteer program to allow youth 15 and older an opportunity to volunteer without having a parent or guardian present. Before starting as a volunteer, the teenagers are required to have an approved volunteer application on file that includes a parent’s signature.
