The city of Gillett has entered into a five-year contract, to begin in January, for the collection of garbage and recyclables. The City Council on Dec. 3 approved a contract with Great American Disposal, which has its corporate office in Kingsford, Michigan, and a location in Suamico. Under the terms of the contract, the city will pay $3,658 a month for garbage and recycling pickup and $45 per ton for tipping fees.

Two Lena High School graduates recently received one of the highest FFA honors presented in the nation, becoming the first Lena students to receive the American FFA Degree in more than 10 years. Joe Jagiello and Marlena Wagner, both 2013 graduates of Lena High School, accepted the American FFA Degree this fall at the National FFA Convention.

Oconto Falls High School was selected as the runner-up of Cellcom’s Project Innovate in the Northeast Wisconsin region. The school will receive $5,000 from Cellcom and Nsight Telservices for the purchase of classroom technology.
