Joanne D. Radies, 64, of the town of Wyoming, passed away suddenly on Thursday, Dec. 24, 2015, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle incident in the town of Seneca, Shawano County. The Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home & Crematory, Marion is assisting her family.

Barbara J. “Bobbie” Scheinert passed away at Maple Lane Health Center in Shawano on Friday, Dec. 25, 2015, at the age of 88 years. She was born on Jan. 13, 1927, to the late Aretus and Viola (Dupuis) Miller in Niagara. Bobbie graduated from Marinette High School in 1944. Following graduation from high school, she was employed at Ansul in Marinette. On May 3, 1947, she was united in marriage to Russell H.

William Louis “Bill” Erdman, 75, of the town of Pella, Clintonville, died on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015. Born on Oct. 6, 1940, he was the son of the late Louis and Rose (Schultz) Erdman. Bill was a graduate of Shawano High School. He worked for Dey’s Construction and later Appleton Coated Paper. While working as an electrician for Ellison Electric in Shawano, he attended tech school.

Three months after opening a $50 million hospital in Shawano, ThedaCare health system is raising prices locally and severing ties with an insurance company that covers hundreds of area consumers. ThedaCare says neither action is directly related to the new hospital, and that the company is dedicated to providing quality health care services at affordable prices in Shawano. Alderman Bob Kurkiewicz has dropped out of the race for Shawano mayor, leaving the field to seven other potential candidates. Meanwhile, Alderman Fred Ponschok has decided not to run for another two-year term in April after 17 years on the Common Council. “That’s long enough,” Ponschok said. He said his age, 86, was a factor in the decision, which he reached after discussions with his family. Ponschok would have faced competition for his council

Minor accidents and vehicles stuck in the snow were the traditional trademarks of the season’s first winter storm this week, but officials say things went fairly smoothly in spite of the problems. The Shawano County Sheriff’s Department logged 26 nonreportable accidents, mostly vehicles sliding into ditches or medians, and three accidents that caused some property damage, between 3 p.m. Monday when the snow started flying and 8:30 a.m.

Timeout! Something Father Mike said in his homily a couple of weeks ago struck me as an interesting topic. He told about his little nephew, who had been issued a “timeout” by his mom for acting out in some way. When his allotted time was up, he announced, “That was exactly 246 seconds!” I don’t remember ever hearing about timeouts (except in sports) until sometime after all our kids were well past such methods of disciplining them.

Members of the Barn Quilts of Oconto County project sponsored a community quilt block for the Oconto Area Humane Society. Project volunteers had varied reasons for sponsoring the quilt block. BQOOC volunteer Donna Baird sponsored the block in memory of her husband, Bill, who served on the OAHS board for many years.

Jimmy “Jim” Ziemer, 76, Abrams, died suddenly of natural causes early Friday morning, Dec. 25, 2015. He was born on Jan. 6, 1939, in Marinette County to Edmund and Lucy (Dora) Ziemer. Jim grew up in the Pound/Coleman area, where he attended school, graduating from Coleman High School with the Class of 1957.
