2025-28 salaries set for county elected officials

The Oconto County Board has approved salaries for the years 2025 through 2028 for the county clerk, treasurer and register of deeds, who are elected in November. State law requires the salaries be set before the earliest date that candidates may begin circulating nomination papers, which this year is April 15. School district votes to end OFES child care
The Oconto Falls School Board voted 5-2 March 18 to close the Kids Station child care program at Oconto Falls Elementary School after the new Encompass Child Care Center opens in the city. Kids Station will continue at Abrams Elementary School, more than 15 miles away. “Truth be told, the school district was not devised to provide this service,” Superintendent Dean Hess said while recommending the closure.

Two killed in separate crashes on 41-141
The victims of two fatal crashes that occurred on U.S. 41-141 within minutes of each other March 19 have been identified as an Oconto man and a Manitowoc radio personality. According to a news release from Oconto County Sheriff Todd Skarban, the emergency dispatch center received a call at 10:08 a.m.

‘Bits and bytes’ hold info about Menominee clans
The story of the Menominee people, including the stories about their clans, has returned home to roost. The College of Menominee Nation flipped the switch March 22 and added the Menominee Clans Story to its website, www.menominee.edu. Previously, the story had resided online at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s website.
