Shawano School District gets mental health funding

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction has announced it has allocated nearly $12 million in federal funding to local education agencies across the state to help meet their unique individual needs as students continue facing growing mental health challenges. Operation Christmas Child celebration planned
Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child shoe box ministry will hold a celebration for the Green Bay area from 10 a.m. to noon April 6 at Grace Lutheran Church, 501 S. Main St., Oconto Falls. The Green Bay region is comprised of 12 counties. The successful 2023 collection will be celebrated and exciting news for 2024 will be shared along with praise, prayer and fellowship.

The Shawano Area Matthew 25 Free Health Clinic was awarded the Silver Seal of Excellence from the Wisconsin Association of Free and Charitable Clinics (WAFCC). The Standards of Excellence were created to promote best policies, practices, and procedures for the Free and Charitable Clinics.

Ski Sharks equipment eyesore for neighbors
The city of Shawano is working out a way to reduce the amount of Shawano Ski Sharks equipment being stored at Smalley Park in order to appease frustrated neighbors. Board OKs salaries for elected officials
Salaries for the next four years for the Shawano County clerk, treasurer and register of deeds were established at the Shawano County Board meeting March 27. Each position will see a 6% pay increase in 2025 and a 2.5% increase in each of the next three years. State law requires the board set the salaries prior to the earliest time for filing nomination papers for the county elective offices, which is April 15. The wages were approved without comm

Palmer College of Chiropractic Taylor Johnson of Shawano has been named to the 2023 fall trimester dean’s list at Palmer College of Chiropractic’s main campus in Davenport, Iowa.

Dorothy L. Johnson
Dorothy L. Johnson, age 96, of Gillett, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 25, 2024. Dorothy was born on April 24, 1927, to the late Walter and Emma (Lifke) Rasmussen. On Feb. 12, 1949, Dorothy married Alfred “Alfie” Johnson in Menominee, Michigan. The couple were lifetime residents of Oconto County. Dorothy devoted her life to her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
