Shawano earns several firsts at conference relays

April 16 The Shawano boys track and field team finished second and the girls finished third in team scoring at the Bay Conference Relays in Shawano. West De Pere won the boys events with 147 points, while Shawano scored 103. West De Pere also won the girls events with 130 points, followed by Xavier with 110 and Shawano with 96. Oconto Falls’ Riel is medalist at Luxemburg
April 16 Bay Conference Mini-Meet Shawano golfers placed fifth at a Bay Conference Mini-Meet at Mid Vallee Golf Course in De Pere. The Hawks carded a 214, well behind leader West De Pere’s 159. Shawano was paced by Tristan Miller’s 48, followed by Blake Knope’s 49, Cooper Montour’s 58 and Jakob Stuhr’s 59.

Shawano tennis team tops Pulaski
April 16 Pulaski 5, Manitowoc Lincoln 2 Manitowoc Lincoln won at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, but Pulaski won all of the other matches to record a 5-2 win. Ryan Symons beat Matt Minehan 6-1, 6-2, at No. 2 singles. At No. 3, Aran Capella beat Cole Palmer 2-0, 2-0. At No. 4, it was Donovan Holderness over Isiah Moua 6-0, 6-0. Pulaski soccer team ties Sheboygan North
April 16 Pulaski 1, Sheboygan North 1 Veronica Decker scored Pulaski’s only goal in the Red Raiders’ 1-1 tie with Sheboygan North. Pulaski had 11 shots in the game. Goalkeeper Sydney Hakes had 10 saves. Xavier 1, Shawano 0 Shawano dropped to 1-2 in the Bay Conference after a 1-0 loss to Xavier. Xavier scored early in the first half.

Bay Port manhandles Pulaski lacrosse team
April 16 Bay Port defeated Pulaski 19-3 in boys lacrosse. The Red Raiders are 0-2 in the Fox River Classic Conference and 0-4 overall.

Leland ‘Lee’ J. Buckoski
Leland “Lee” John Buckoski, age 93, slipped unexpectedly into the arms of Jesus on April 16, 2024, at his home in Fox Crossing. Just days before his passing, he had the pleasure of visiting “The Farm” with his children regaling them with his memories. Lee was born on Aug. 14, 1930, to Andrew and Julia (Stefl) Buckoski at home in the Town of Seneca, Shawano County. He was the youngest of three children and assisted his parents on the family farm.

Wittenberg closes first TID under distress
The Wittenberg Village Board voted unanimously April 16 to close its first tax incremental finance district early to make room for forming a fourth district in the village this year. The first TID encompassed the Marshfield Clinic, Nueske’s and the Northcentral Technical College building, according to Village Clerk Traci Matsche. According to consultant Harry Allen, the TID is being closed for two reasons.

Dillon back on a one-year deal in Green Bay
After the news broke about Josh Jacobs signing with the Packers, fans and media members thought that meant AJ Dillon was on his way out of town. After battling injuries and a decline in play and on an expiring contract, it seemed likely the marriage between Dillon and the Packers was over. That was not the case though. Green Bay opted to move on from Aaron Jones and bring Dillon back on a one-year deal.

Four notable names find themselves back in Green Bay
While the start of the new NFL season often builds excitement for new faces joining a football team, sometimes retaining players is just as impactful. For the Green Bay Packers this season, four notable names were retained, including defensive back and kick returner Keisean Nixon.
