Detective team grapple with killing spree
“Five Cold Bodies” by K.J. Kalis was the third in the Detective Max Grady series but was OK as a stand-alone. Buckhead County sits just outside of Pittsburgh. Economic assessment looking at Menominee tribe
The Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin is doing an economic assessment in the hopes of developing a strategic plan that turns the reservation into a resource for local entrepreneurs and increases the potential benefits the tribe can tap into to improve life for its people. James Charles ‘Jim’ Beitzel
James C. “Jim” Beitzel, passed away July 23, 2024. Jim was born to duck hunt and fish and did so with a passion until the end. He was born Sept. 23, 1935, in Manitowoc, on the shores of Lake Michigan, where he fished trout and salmon from his 12-foot hand-painted camo duck boat. Jim graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School.

Vernon G. Mortier
Vernon G. Mortier, 92, Oconto Falls, died Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at an area hospital. He was born July 19, 1932, in rural Oconto Falls to August and Theresa (Loberger) Mortier. When he was 4 years old, the family moved to rural Oconto where Vern graduated from Lena High School with the class of 1950. Ad hoc building committee appointees approved
It took some time, but Shawano County Board Chairman Tom Kautza finally has a full slate for the county’s ad hoc building committee. The 11-member panel was approved at the July 24 meeting of the County Board. Previously, Kautza was having difficulty finding business representatives from the three sections of the county — east, central and west. Now named to the committee are John Jacobs Jr.

Ethics Committee will soon be busy
A trio of Shawano County residents will join two Shawano County Board supervisors as they delve into ethics cases involving county employees.
