Oconto Falls High School is inviting veterans, their families, and the community to join the school at its annual Veterans Day program Nov. 11. The day will begin with a small reception for veterans at 8:30 a.m. in the OFHS Commons, followed by a high school assembly and program from 9-10 a.m. Veterans are welcome to bring family members and guests to share in the occasion.

Zech Felix passed away on Oct. 25, 2024, at the age of 29. He was the beloved son of Robert and Nancy Felix, and cherished brother to Anna, Charise, Daniella, Eric, Joel, Sarah, Sasha, their spouses and children. He enjoyed video games, music, art, riding his bike and was an active member of the Jehovah’s Witness Organization. While often reserved and quiet, his personality shined in his creative nature.

Donna M. Reinke (Mauel), 85, of Shawano, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, in Shawano. Donna was born in Neenah on July 31, 1939, daughter of the late Ervin and Erma (Schroth) Turkow. She was united in marriage to Richard Mauel on Sept. 5, 1959, and enjoyed many years together until his passing on Jan. 27, 1978.

Linda M. Kalinosky, 67, of the Town of Larrabee, passed away Monday, Oct. 28, 2024. Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home and Crematory, Clintonville.

To the editor: Horace Mann, “Father of Education,” believed that education should be available to all children, free of charge, and funded by the state. Now, in 2024, a goal of the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025’s is to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education, a vow Donald Trump has repeated over and over on the campaign trail. Presently, 90% of children living in the United States go to public schools.

A 5K Turkey Trot to benefit the Shawano Menominee Resiliency Coalition will be held Nov. 28, starting at Total Fitness, 116 N. Main St., Shawano. Adults can participate for $25, and children 10 and younger pay $20. The registration fee includes a T-shirt if registration is completed by Nov. 16. Shirts can be picked up and late registration will be accepted at 7 a.m. the day of the event.

Shawano Fire Chief Shawn Borlace recently recognized several staff members for their years of service. Assistant Chief Kent Wall and Capt. Ron Keuschel each have over 40 years with the department. Capt.

Wisconsin had 6.6 days suitable for fieldwork statewide for the week ending Oct. 27, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Another warm, dry week with limited rainfall allowed for row crop harvest progress to remain well ahead of average. The weather also led to declines in wheat and pasture conditions as well as soil moisture ratings. The carrot and cranberry harvests continued.
