Amy Damveld, of Shawano, presented a check for $1,200 to the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team during their doubleheader softball game at the Minocqua Park Complex on Saturday.
This is the second year Damveld made and sold apple, pecan, peanut butter and pumpkin “Patriot Pies.” The pies sold for $10; her cheesecake pies sold for $20. She also sold bracelets for $1 each.
Damveld started raising funds for the team on June 14.
Damveld’s cause was helped by the Adolph F. Krueger family, which donated money in memory of their father, who was a World War II veteran.
“Thank you to everyone who helped me, with a special thanks to the Adolph F. Krueger family and Wolf River Media for all the advertising,” she said.
The Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball team is made up of soldiers who have suffered severe injuries that resulted in amputations. Through prosthetic legs and arms and rehab, they have become competitive athletes who play softball against teams in cities all over the United States.
