Turn in old car seats at Safe Kids Day

Oconto County Public Health and its partners will collect old and unused car seats April 26 as part of Safe Kids Day, an event to celebrate kids, prevent injuries and save lives. Child’s car seats and booster seats will be collected between 10 a.m. and noon Saturday, April 26, at the Oconto Fire Department. The seats will be taken apart to be recycled and properly disposed. The event is sponsored by Safe Kids Wisconsin, Advanced Disposal Services, Oconto County Public Health and the Oconto Fire Department. Seats to turn in are those that are past their expiration date, have been in a car crash, have missing or broken pieces, were purchased from a garage sale or thrift store, or are unsafe because of a recall. All car seats have an expiration date that can be found on the manufacturer’s label. If there is no expiration date listed, a general rule for expiration is six years from the manufacture date. A member of Safe Kids Worldwide, Safe Kids Wisconsin works to prevent accidental injuries, the leading cause of death among children 14 years of age and younger.
