Leonard L. Kallies, 74, of Pound, passed away peacefully at Woodland Village Nursing Center, Suring, on Friday, Aug. 22, 2014. He was born Aug. 8, 1940, to the late Lawrence and Hazel (Hintz) Kallies.
Leonard was employed at Graetz Manufacturing Co. from 1964 until his retirement in 2006. Leonard also farmed approximately 40 acres and raised beef cattle.
A faithful member of Hillside Assembly of God, he served as a deacon for many terms starting at 18 years of age. Always serving the community, Leonard was a volunteer fireman for Brazeau for 25-plus years. His passionate hobby of photography developed into a thriving business in the 1980s and continued until 2006. He was a talented singer and guitarist, performing with The Friday Night Gospel Group at various churches from 1999-2009.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Alice Kallies, three children, Chris (Steve) Nasgovitz, Pound, Cindy (Layne) Stank, Menominee, Michigan, and Katy (Gary) Shanahan, Kenosha; seven grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; two brothers, John (Maxine) Kallies and Doug (Charlene) Kallies; two sisters, Karen (Bob) Young and Mariette (Joe) Piencikowski; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by five stepbrothers, Ken (Jennifer) Neitzel, Dave (Barbara) Neitzel, Phillip (Jan) Neitzel, Doug (Vicky) Neitzel, Dan Neitzel, and one stepsister, Deb (Al) Quast.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Evelyn Kallies, and stepbrother, Gordon Neitzel.
Friends paid their last respects at Hillside Assembly of God Church, 5890 State Highway 22 W., Gillett, Monday, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at noon, with the Rev. Paul Carlson officiating. Leonard will be placed to rest at Underhill Cemetery following a lunch in the church gymnasium.
