Violet D. Hinkfus, 83, of Gillett, passed away at home on Friday, Feb. 20, 2015. Violet was born on May 21, 1931, to the late Gerhard and Leola (Lyons) Stuewer.
Violet married Lavern Hinkfus at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hayes on March 17, 1949.
She worked as a forklift driver at Warvels Products in Gillett for over 20 years and later did seasonal work at Seneca Foods. Violet and her husband owned and operated Vern and Vi’s Bar in Gillett for four years.
She loved farming with her husband, doing needle point and will be remembered for her famous pies and tortes. She especially loved spending time with her family. She is a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Gillett.
Violet is survived by her daughter, June (William) Bush, of Clintonville; two sons, Greg (Jeanine Kobes) Hinkfus, of Shawano, Robert Hinkfus, of North Dakota; a sister, Luretta Wilber, of Suring; a brother, Bernard Stuewer, of Suring; a sister-in-law, Deanna Blazei, of Milwaukee; a special brother-in-law, Donnie Hinkfuss, of Gillett; a brother-in-law, Dalton Heimerman Sr., of Mountain; three grandsons, Eric (Melissa) Kavanaugh, David (Dewi) Bush and Ryan (Pandra) Bush; four great-grandchildren, Danielle Hinkfus, Lauren Kavanaugh, Nicole Kavanaugh and Brinley Bush. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lavern; her sister, Hilda Heimerman; and her son, Gregory Sr.
Visitation was held at Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring on Monday, Feb. 23, 2015, from 4-8 p.m. Visitation continued on Tuesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Gillett from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Doreen Jeffers officiating.
Violet will be laid to rest by her husband in St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Gillett.
