Bird City Oconto will present “How to Create a Garden for Butterflies” at 6 p.m.Wednesday, May 13, at Oconto City Hall. Linda Warren and Adrian Konell will tell about butterfly ecology and gardening for native butterflies.
Topics will include the life cycle of the butterfly and butterfly behaviors, such as puddling and basking. The presenters will also talk about caterpillar food plants, adult nectar plants, feeding adult butterflies that do not eat nectar, and how these small insects overwinter.
Participants will learn what native plants are used by caterpillars and adults as food sources.
Planning and creating a butterfly garden can be fun. A butterfly garden can attract a variety of colorful butterflies to a backyard and create an important sanctuary for butterflies.
