Career exploration event provides students with hands-on experience in career fields

Fox Valley Technical College and the Clintonville School District, in collaboration with the Clintonville Area Chamber of Commerce and the Shawano Country Chamber of Commerce, will host an eighth grade career exploration event from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 29 at Clintonville Middle School. This career fair will host more than 1,300 students from Outagamie, Shawano, Waupaca and Oconto counties. The career fair will feature 51 exhibitors from local businesses and organizations, each representing one of 16 career clusters from agriculture, food and natural resources to transportation, distribution and logistics, plus much more. Students will have the opportunity to learn about different careers, meet with professionals in those fields and participate in hands-on activities. “As our world of work evolves, we are seeing a need for employees with specific and even advanced skills,” said Suzanne Wittman, executive director at the Shawano Country Chamber of Commerce. “This event opens a universe of opportunities to students and helps them explore their interests while introducing them to different career options right in their own communities.” The coordinating organizations have worked together for 20-plus years to provide this opportunity for students and to actively engage businesses with their future workforce.
