Sacred Heart Catholic School students in grades 5-8 had the opportunity to put their faith into action when they participated in the Feed My Starving Children Mobile Pack in Green Bay on Oct. 8.
Students, middle school staff and parent volunteers traveled to the Green Bay Community Church, where the students engaged in a corporal work of mercy — feeding the hungry. The students actively hand-packed a blend of vitamins and minerals, rice, soy and dried vegetables into bags, which were sealed and then boxed to be shipped to people around the world who are in need of the food. During their shift, the students helped other volunteers pack 275 boxes of food, which equates to 59,400 meals for those in need.
“Jesus calls us to serve, not to be served,” said Mary Rose Morse, eighth grade teacher at Sacred Heart. “This is something we hope to instill in our students at Sacred Heart Catholic School. Through their experience, the students learned that it takes work to help others, but it is also fun and very rewarding.”
