Bears, Chargers shine at Weyauwega cross country race

Oct. 10 Weyauwega-Fremont Warhawk Invitational Bonduel’s Mariah Wondra won the girls event in 19:47, with Wittenberg-Birnamwood’s Rory Salvesen taking second in 20:10. However, when it came to team finishes, the Chargers placed second, and the Bears were fourth. Joining Salvesen on the course were: Nora Bushman, fifth place, 20:27.8; Harper Kroll, 10th, 21:06.1; and Gabrielle Timm, 19th, 22:02. Also running was Jayden Zeinert. Bonduel’s Teagan Engel was 11th in 21:10.9. Cierra Schnell, Kemper Frome, Hailey Berg, Taylor Rank, Seidy Blandon and Isabella Roberts rounded out the team. Urijah Reevis represented Menominee Nation, with an 18th-place finish in 22:01.9. Bridget Much represented Marion and finished 75th in 27:45. In the boys race, Bonduel won the team competition, followed by Menomonee Nation in second. Wittenberg-Birnamwood placed 11th. For the Bears, Race Anvelink set the pace with a seventh-place finish in 17:37.2. Gage Anderson placed 10th in 18:07.9, followed by Griffin Uelmen in 11th in 18:15.1, Oliver Chitwood in 14th in 18:31.8 and Joah Dworniczak in 20th in 18:51.3. Garrett Anderson, Ben Reisner and Dylan Keller also ran the course. As for the Eagles, Bryant Waupoose III led the team, placing fourth in 17:20.1. Ryan Corn was ninth in 17:57.1, and Jason Chapman was 18th in 18:47.8. Also collecting points for Menominee Nation were Barron Waupoose, Francis Delabrau, Quinn Olson and Michael Peters III. Wittenberg-Birnamwood was led by Landon Meronk, who placed 44th in 19:56.5. Points were also scored by Jonas Bushman, Milo Salvesen, Taras Guk, Hayden Miller, Marty Nowinsky and Coleten Mueller. Dalton Fletcher also ran. Marion’s Tristan Herro placed 67th in 20:39.5. Seymour Invitational The Pulaski boys placed third out of 12 large schools, with Luckas Juranek grabbing second place overall in 16:40. Will Murphy ran to a 12th place spot in 17:28.2, followed directly by Joe Opolka in 13th in 17:30.1. Thomas Shaw was 19th in 17:40.9, and Conner Steeno was 24th in 17:45.6. Connor Heezen, Connor Versch and Garrett Mihalski also finished the race. Shawano’s boys were fourth out of 13 schools and had two runners finish in the top 10. Senior Demetrius Kaquatosh placed in fourth in 17:00.7, and freshman Alec White was eighth in 17:20.8. Zachary Black was 23rd in 17:42.9, with Johnny Dillenburg in 39th in 18:16.6 and Karsten Anderson in 44th in 18:37.2. Also competing for the Hawks were Aidan Preston and Ethan Chelberg. Shawano was fourth out of 13 small schools in the girls competition. The team was led by Odessa Arce, who finished in fifth place in 20:22.1. Grace Beyer placed 22nd in 21:17.9. Claire Guenther placed 25th in 21:28.4, right in front of Lydia Beyer’s 26th-place finish in 21:37.6. Rachael Warax was 60th in 23:55.3. Among the 11 large schools, Pulaski’s girls team placed sixth and was led by Anna Balstad’s 17th-place finish in 20:32.8. Kamryn Brockman placed 31st in 21:53.5, followed by Mischa Fischer in 32nd in 21:57.3. Angela Opolka was 41st in 22:33.1, followed by Grace Goodness in 42nd in 22:33.4. Ella Wiese, Emeline Slalecki and Caitlyn Wacholz also competed.
