Within the seven vision areas of the Menominee Tribe Strategic Plan, workgroups are collaborating, strategizing and making headway on their initiatives.
One workgroup focusing on the Economic vision area have made big accomplishments that have granted the team a Focus on Energy Energy Efficiency Excellence Award.
The economic vision area focuses on business development, overall economic growth, and ways to save costs and create more sustainable practices and facilities.
“The tribal maintenance and facilities team has been instrumental in making updates to our buildings that can save the tribe money and provide us all with more energy-efficient options,” said Gena Kakkak, tribal chairwoman. “Since day one of the current strategic plan, this team has been diligently working to find long-term solutions.”
James Corn, facilities director, along with his team, were presented with the 2024 Energy Efficiency Excellence Award at the Tribal Offices on Aug. 8 by members of the Focus on Energy Program. Each year, the program selects 10 Wisconsin entities, ranging from businesses to farms, to be honored as champions of finding not just lower-cost energy solutions but ways to reduce energy use all together.
“We are so proud of the work that Jim and his team has done under the Strategic Plan,” said Brenda Tomow with the Wisconsin Department of Administration. “It’s even more exciting to see their work be recognized among the other great initiatives happening across the state of Wisconsin.”
The maintenance and facilities team set out to centralize purchasing/expenditures for cost-efficiency and procurement cost-savings. The team has been updating tribal office buildings with LED bulbs in every light fixture which has allowed for a large reduction in operating costs and increase in energy savings.
“This award is a reminder that, while it may seem like small changes, they can make BIG impacts,” added Kakkak. “Everyone on the maintenance and facilities team should be so proud of their accomplishments.”
