What do beef snack sticks and cheese curds have in common?

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources announced the confirmed presence of pale swallow-wort, an invasive vine, in Oconto and Shawano counties.

The vine was found within the outskirts of the Town of Krakow along the shared county line. These are the first known populations in the state, making rapid response efforts critical to preventing the establishment of this species in Wisconsin.

Participants explored the rich tradition of Native American plant medicine during a guided walk along the Mountain-Bay State Trail in Bowler on July 1.

Led by educator and author Misty Cook, the program welcomed 12 participants eager to learn about the medicinal plants growing around them.

Cook opened the walk by sharing the history of how native plant medicine knowledge was passed down through generations by oral tradition.

An Angus calf was reportedly killed by a wolf July 7 in Oconto County, according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

The killing occurred on a farm east of Suring.

The DNR classified the death of the calf as a “probable wolf depredation.” That means there was “clear evidence strongly suggesting that one or more wolves were responsible.”
