New superintendent leads at MISD

As it is for students, the first day of school in the Menominee Indian School Distinct will also be new — sort of — for Shannon Chapman, the district’s new superintendent.

Chapman was hired last spring to succeed Marcus Denny, who stepped down at the end of the 2025-26 school year. She has more than 30 years of experience in the education field.

School district updates attendance policy

The attendance policy for the Shawano School District, up until this point, had missing any part of the school day count as a full-day absence.

Board overrides decision on filling vacancies

Shawano County supervisors voted Aug. 26 to override the decision of its own rules committee when it comes to filling vacancies on the board.

Funding for additional teachers found

The Shawano School District announced it was hiring an additional fourth-grade teacher in July and set off alarm bells for some Shawano School Board members due to making $1.77 million in cuts earlier in the year.

That changed once district officials presented their rationale for adding that teacher as well as an English teacher position for sixth and seventh grades. The board voted at its Aug. 24 meeting to approve both positions.

Oconto Falls school lawsuit leads to concerns in Kaukauna

A middle school principal in Kaukauna named, but not a defendant, in the sexual abuse and misconduct lawsuit against the Oconto Falls School Board was the center of attention at the Aug. 24 Kaukauna School Board meeting.

Some residents there called for River View Middle School principal Lucas Cromell to either be removed permanently or placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.

Shawano Area Waterways Management is updating the aquatic plant management portion of Shawano Lake’s 2021 comprehensive management plan. The updated aquatic plant management plan will be implemented starting in 2027.
