Fischer narrowly misses 5th for Gillett/Suring

Gillett/Suring senior Grant Fischer was one win away from taking a spot at the Kohl Center podium during the WIAA Division 3 Individual Wrestling Championship Tournament, which concluded Saturday in Madison. The 138-pound senior lost his fifth place match to Arcadia’s Jacob Erbe (45-7), 10-5. Fischer (36-11), one of two Matmen state qualifiers, lost a 16-3 major decision to Mineral Point’s Ross Siegenthaler (42-8) in the quarterfinals before defeating Robby Rands (23-14), of Independence/Gilman, 18-3 in the first consolation round. Fischer’s tourney ended when he was sent to the mat by Mishicot’s Weston Cracraft (46-3) at 1 minute, 33 seconds into their consolation semifinal. Alex Zeitler (30-10), a 152-pound junior, lost a 5-0 decision to Mineral Point’s Scott Pittz (46-4) in the preliminaries.
