Lawrence University senior shortstop Amanda Jaskolski has been named the Midwest Conference Player of the Year for the second consecutive softball season.
Jaskolski – a Shawano Community High School graduate – earned the honor after leading the conference in several offensive categories and helping the Appleton school to the North Division title.
The defending North Division Player of the Year hit .462 on the season with 37 runs scored, 13 home runs and 46 runs batted in. She led the league in on-base percentage at .573 and was first in RBIs, homers and walks (31); she finished second in hits, slugging percentage and runs scored.
Jaskolski also decimated the Lawrence season records in 2015 by tying or setting six marks.
Her 13 homers eclipsed the record of 12 set by Carli Gurholt in 2009. She also obliterated the total bases record with 104. The prior mark was 79, set by Jenny Burris in 2001 and Gurholt in 2009.
Jaskolski’s 54 hits broke the record of 51 set by Burris in 2001, and she tied Burris’ record of 37 runs scored in 2001. She also broke the record for walks in a season as teams consistently pitched around her. She drew 31 walks, topping the mark of 22 set by Stephanie Ash in 1992.
In conference play, Jaskolski hit .439 with three doubles, three homers and 12 RBIs. She also was walked 15 times, which helped her score a team-best 16 runs in league play.
Winona State University
Shawano Community High School graduate Dan Lohff earned his first win of the year for the Winona State University baseball team Saturday, 8-5.
Lohff appeared in nine games for the Winona, Minnesota, school prior to Saturday’s game against Minnesota State, all in relief roles.
Winona State used a different strategy in taking down the Mavericks in the second game of a doubleheader, using five different relief pitchers instead of a starter. Lohff earned the win by pitching three innings in relief, giving up no runs on two hits with no walks and a strikeout. This was his longest outing of the season so far.
The Warriors opened a 3-0 lead in the first inning, then extended their advantage to 7-2 with a four-run fifth inning. The doubleheader split moved Winona State to 21-28 overall and 19-17 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
Lakeland College
Bonduel High School graduate Ryan Boettcher had two hits and a RBI for Lakeland College in its second game of a doubleheader Saturday at Concordia University Wisconsin in Mequon. His fifth-inning double broke Concordia’s shutout bid and brought the score to 5-1, though the Boettcher and the Muskies were swept in the doubleheader, 13-1 and 9-2. The Sheboygan school dropped to 9-30 on the season.
Concordia University Wisconsin
Nicole Gloede, a Bonduel High School grad, finished 19th in the discus for Concordia University Wisconsin on April 25 in the Wisconsin Private College Championships at St. Norbert College in De Pere.
Her final effort, marked at 26.74 meters, was her best. Concordia, in Mequon, finished fourth in the team standings with 91 points; Carthage won the event with 207.
