Harry H. Deering, 78, formerly of Pulcifer, passed away on Sunday evening, July 27, 2014, at Maple Lane Health Care Center in Shawano.
Harry was born on Jan. 5, 1936, in the town of Underhill, Oconto County, a son of the late Edward and Adelia (Karstedt) Deering.
He attended the Gillett schools and later entered the United States Army, serving his country from April 8, 1954, until Feb. 11, 1956. He was stationed in Korea and worked as a heavy equipment operator. Upon returning from service, Harry moved to Milwaukee and worked as a commercial painter.
On April 4, 1959, Harry was united in marriage to the former Lois Ann Zippel. Following their marriage the couple briefly moved to California, then returned to Milwaukee, where they stayed until 1969. They decided to leave Milwaukee and bought a farm in Underhill. Harry stayed active on the farm until 1985 but continued painting until he was in his late 70s.
Harry was a very social person who enjoyed visiting with relatives and friends. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Harry always made family a priority. He served as a member of the Underhill Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Hintz.
Harry is survived by his loving children, Janine (Dale) Spies-Deering, of Little Suamico, Sherry Schultz, of De Pere, and Wayne (Pam) Deering, of Suring; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He is further survived by a brother, Arthur Deering, of Milwaukee, and a sister, Elaine Arneson, of the town of Green Valley.
Harry was preceded in death by three brothers, Hugo, Rhinehold,and Walter Deering, and two sisters, Emma Lockstein and Sophie Horsens.
A memorial service for Harry Deering will be held on Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, at 12 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Hintz. Pastor Michael Paholke will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Underhill Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at Christ Lutheran Church, Hintz on Friday from 11 a.m. until the hour of service.
Mickelson Funeral and Cremation Service of Shawano is assisting the family with the service arrangements.
