Richard “Dick” and Mary Ann Glime have been selected as the parade marshals for the 2014 Lena Dairyfest Parade. They will lead the parade at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, in a horse-drawn carriage down Main Street.
The Glimes recently left Lena to live in Wisconsin Dells, where they purchased a bakery. They are closer to two of their children who live in the city and get to see their first grandchild more often.
The Lena Lions Club selected the Glimes as parade marshals in appreciation for all they have done for the Lena community.
Dick is the son of the late George and Marion Glime, of rural Lena, and Mary Ann is the daughter of Dottie Frye and the late George Frye. The Glimes have three grown children, all college graduates.
The Glimes have been active in the community, church and youth activities for many years.
Dick Glime served on the Lena Fire Department, the Lena Village Board and village committees and coached youth basketball. He was a longtime member of the Lena Knights of Columbus and served as grand knight and financial secretary and held other offices. He is a member of the Bishop Bona Assembly of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and was a member of the Lena Lions Club. He was the chairman of the parish Building and Grounds Committee for years. He did repair and maintenance jobs for the church which saved the parish money.
Mary Ann Glime started her teaching career in Peshtigo and taught in the Gillett and Lena school districts. She was a member of many professional organizations. Her students performed on Veterans Day and Memorial Day for many years. She also directed the choir at St. Anne’s Parish and provided entertainment for the Lena Lions Club Christmas party.
