Chelberg wins at Valders Tournament

Jan. 11 Valders Tournament Shawano’s wrestlers captured a first place, three thirds and several other top 10s at Valders. Drew Chelberg won first place, with third place earned by Cash Panske, Kody Popelka and Marcus Brezgel. “Drew Chelberg wrestled very well today,” coach Mike Homan said. “He has seen some very tough competition this year, and his record shows that, but he puts the effort into practice every day, and it really paid off for him today. He earned a technical fall in his finals match and really showed that he was the best wrestler in the bracket.” Homan also praised Panske, Popelka and Brezgel. “Cash Panske … did a great job taking advantage of his matches and did well at some key moments,” he said. “Kody Popelka continues to be consistent and did a good job wrestling to third place. Marcus Brezgel … wrestled well in his placing match. He continues to work hard, and once he puts everything together, he is going to be tough.” Dylan Gartner and Dane Hodkiewicz each took fifth place, Kian Morstad was sixth, Austin Stickney was seventh and Andrew Yeager took 10th.
