Two area residents, Jan Betts and Molly Alsteen, are candidates for the town of Oconto Falls clerk position in the April 7 election.
The position is held by Michael Kaczmarek, who was appointed Jan. 1. Kaczmarek and incumbent Victor Peterson are candidates for the two town supervisor positions. Supervisor Phillip Konitzer decided not to seek another term.

Jan E. Betts
Age: 68, resident of the town of Oconto Falls since 1979
Education: “I grew up in the Chicago suburbs and went to high school there. When my children were teenagers I attended the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and got my degree in business with an emphasis in human resource management. I returned to UWGB to earn my teaching license.”
Employment: “When we moved to Oconto Falls we bought a dairy farm and ran that for 25 years. While running the farm we opened a video store on Main Street. Betts Home Video grew from a small store front and acquired a Radio Shack franchise. We operated that business for 13 years in the mall between Witt’s Piggly Wiggly and True Value. After the farm and store, I worked for KI as a project manager. I earned my teaching certificate and worked in the Wabeno school system. Since retirement, I have been doing substitute teaching for the Oconto Falls School District.”
Statement: “I have lived in Oconto Falls township for 35 years and owned and operated two businesses. Because the businesses were successful, I have been in tune with the town for many years. In my retirement, I have spent time volunteering at the NEW Zoo and substitute teaching. I have the time and the skills to do this job and do the best for the town, my home for so many years.”
