The Oconto County Historical Society is sponsoring its 12th annual Cemetery Walk “If Tombstones Could Talk” on Sept. 12-14. The first two evenings will find the walk being staged outdoors at the Oconto Catholic Cemetery, 3024 N. River Road, Oconto. On the evening of Sept. 14, the program will be presented in the John B. LeMay Auditorium at Oconto Senior High School, 1717 Superior Ave., Oconto.

One local writer payed homage to a friend with a book written about their life. John J. Mutter Jr. recently completed a book, titled “The Oddball,” detailing the life and personality of Shawano resident George Putz Jr. Putz passed away in 2006. “In 1966, I got a job at the Shawano Paper Mill,” said Mutter. “I got to meet George Putz there. St. James Lutheran School is busy getting its playground prepped for new playground equipment for this fall. The funding for the playground came from a unique fundraiser when the principal sat on the school roof for three days.
